Dorothy Loeb and Blanche Lazzell share this silkscreen announcement, and Lazzell, a Provincetown printmaker known for her color woodcuts, is the name that anchors it. The Federal Art Gallery at 77 Newbury Street was one of the Boston exhibition spaces run under the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which gave artists paid work during the Depression and brought their shows to the public. Silkscreen was a relatively inexpensive method for making bold, flat-colored posters, and the back of this sheet carries a March 25, 1939 date stamp.
