This poster promotes a public school art exhibition at the Sioux City Art Center in Iowa, and its subjects include marching bands, which suggests the children's work or the event drew on school music life. The Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which ran from 1935 to 1943, employed artists to make inexpensive posters like this one, and silkscreen was a practical method for printing them in bright, flat color. The date printed on the back of the board, April 12, 1939, places it near the end of the period when the project was producing community posters. The Library of Congress holds the poster in its WPA collection, and it was shown in the library's American Treasures exhibition in 2002 and 2003.
