A silkscreen poster from 1936 announces an exhibition of watercolors by New York artists working under the Works Progress Administration, shown at the Ottumwa Art Center in Iowa. Unlike many WPA posters that advertised local events, this one was designed and made by Iowa artists, which shows how the Federal Art Project's poster program drew on regional talent to reach small-city audiences. Silkscreen was a fairly new method then, and it gave these posters flat, bold color suited to streets and storefronts. A date stamp on the back, November 8, 1940, shows the sheet was handled and recorded several years after it was printed.
