This color silkscreen print, produced by the WPA Federal Art Project in New York City in 1938, announces an exhibition of work by art teachers who were also employed on the Project. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, put artists to work during the Depression, and its New York branch made silkscreen a major medium for posters and printed matter because the process was inexpensive and reproduced bold flat color well. The subject is a show that brought teachers' own painting into public view, a reminder that the Project supported working artists as well as the art they made for communities.
