The Arcade de l'Ecce-Homo is a stone arch that spans the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem, a point that pilgrims have long linked to Pontius Pilate presenting Jesus to the crowd with the words "Ecce Homo," or "Behold the man." The print comes from Auguste Salzmann's *Jérusalem*, published in Paris in 1856, which set out to record the city's monuments from the Jewish period to the present. Salzmann was a French photographer, and his views are among the earliest photographic records of Jerusalem. Notice the arch's weathered masonry and the narrow street beneath it, which give a sense of the city's dense old fabric in the 1850s.
