The Pool of Siloam sits at the southern end of the City of David, where water from the Gihon Spring reached the city through Hezekiah's Tunnel, a conduit cut in the late eighth century BCE. The pool appears in the Hebrew Bible and in the Gospel of John, where Jesus sends a blind man to wash there, and it drew pilgrims for centuries. Visitors in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries found it largely a ruin beside the Arab village of Silwan, and its steps and stonework were more fully uncovered by excavators in later decades.
