Willis Creek, a tidal inlet in the Boston area, is the focus of this etching, which views the harbor and its shoreline from the water. It was made by William Pierre and published in London on September 16, 1775, by Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres, a surveyor who worked for the Royal Navy. Its date falls months after the fighting at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill, when Boston was under siege, and the print was later reproduced in DesBarres's *Atlantic Neptune* (1777-1781), a navigational atlas meant for British naval officers.
