A sailboat named *Etto* is the focus of this view, photographed on Regatta Day at the Fort William Henry Hotel on Lake George in New York's Adirondack foothills. The hotel stood near the site of Fort William Henry, the British outpost besieged by the French in 1757, and by the early 1900s the lake had become a popular summer destination for resort guests. Regattas like this one drew crowds to the shoreline and showed off the leisure life that the region's hotels promoted. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative between about 1905 and 1920, sold views like this to travelers and promoters of American resorts.
