The street-level view of this house at 5 Dupont Circle shows the home of William Howard Taft, who was in the middle of a major career change in 1913. He left the presidency that March and soon took a teaching post at Yale, which marked the end of his years as a Washington official. Dupont Circle was one of the city's most fashionable residential districts in this period, lined with large townhouses built for prominent families. Photographer W.R. Ross recorded the facade as a document of a well-known address at a turning point in its owner's life.
