Dupont Circle grew into one of Washington's busiest commercial and residential districts in the early twentieth century, and this view records a bank that stood within that growing neighborhood. The photograph comes from the National Photo Company, a firm that documented the capital's streets, public buildings and businesses for decades, so it preserves how a Washington bank looked around 1925. Banks of this period were designed to project permanence and trust to customers, which makes the image a useful record of how financial institutions presented themselves to the public.
