Old Faithful, the geyser named on this card, sits in Wyoming's part of Yellowstone, though the catalog's subject heading lists California, a quirk researchers should note. The Washburn expedition named it in 1870 for its fairly regular eruptions. Yellowstone had become the nation's first national park in 1872, and by the early 1900s stereo cards like this one carried its wonders into parlors across the country. Viewed through a stereoscope, the twin images fused into a single scene with depth.
