Old Faithful, the geyser in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, appears in this print from about 1917, copyrighted by the Haynes firm of St. Paul. The Washburn expedition of 1870 named the geyser for how regularly it erupts, and Yellowstone had become the first national park in 1872. F. Jay Haynes, whose firm made this view, was among the best-known photographers of the park's early tourist years, and his pictures helped shape how visitors imagined it.
