Old Faithful, the geyser in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, is the subject here, shown in the middle of an eruption. This c1927 print carries a copyright notice in the name of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway, which ran tourist service to the park and promoted it heavily to travelers in that era. Its presence in the Library of Congress collection reflects how such railway publicity images documented the park's attractions. Old Faithful, named in 1870 for its fairly regular eruptions, was already one of the best-known sights in the American West by the late 1920s.
