The mermaid figures set this poster apart from the other ball announcements in the gallery, and the record also tags it with food, drink, and dancing. It advertises the eighteenth ball of the Warsaw Polytechnical Institute, held on 5 February 1938, and was printed in Warsaw by the firm of B. Wierzbicki and Company. Student balls were lively social events in interwar Warsaw, and this multicolor chromolithograph was built to catch the eye on city streets. Two years later, the German invasion closed Polish universities, which gives the cheerful invitation a poignant edge.
