A mermaid, the Syrenka of Warsaw's coat of arms, shares this 1936 color lithograph with the city's castle and palace architecture. The poster was printed in Warsaw by the firm of B. Wierzbicki i S-ka and issued under the sponsorship of a Polish tourism league and the state railways, both working to draw travelers to the country in the interwar years. Its aim was to present Poland as a destination, and its bold, flat shapes reflect the graphic style common on European travel posters of the 1930s.
