A 1926 Polish State Railways poster sends travelers to Kraków, and its subject headings point to the city's sixteenth-century royal past, with a castle and a procession tied to Stefan Batory, king of Poland from 1576 to 1586. Zygmunt Kamiński designed the image, which was printed as a chromolithograph in Kraków. In the 1920s, newly independent Poland used such posters to promote both rail travel and national heritage. Kraków, the royal capital until the court moved to Warsaw in 1596, was a natural choice for that message.
