Upper Silesia, or Górny Śląsk, is the setting of this poster, and its title sends travelers to a district better known for coal pits and foundries than for scenery. W. Langner designed it in 1937, and it was printed in Warsaw the following year for the Silesian Voivodeship's tourism promotion association in Katowice, with the Polish State Railways also named as a sponsor. Its chosen subjects, coal mining and foundries, reflect how central the region was to Poland's industrial economy in the 1930s.
