Zakopane, the mountain resort at the foot of the Tatras, sets this poster apart, and the men pictured wear the highland dress of the local Górale people. The color lithograph was printed in Warsaw around 1925 by the Koziański firm and sponsored by the Ministry of Communications, which used posters like this to encourage travel within Poland. By the 1920s Zakopane had become a fashionable retreat, and its embroidered costumes and wooden architecture helped make it a symbol of the country's mountain landscape.
