Winter fills this poster's frame: snow-covered slopes, a church, and figures in traditional mountain dress, all set in the Carpathians. The Polish State Railways commissioned it to draw travelers to the mountains during the interwar years, when rail links to resorts such as Zakopane made winter sports and highland holidays easier to reach. Władysław Jarocki designed it, and the lithograph was printed in Kraków around 1935. Posters like this were both advertising and a way of presenting a national landscape and its regional culture to the public.
