Few posters from the young Polish state tie national identity to sport as directly as this 1920 chromolithograph, printed in Warsaw to promote Poland's team at the VIIth Olympic Games in Antwerp. Issued by the Polish Olympic Committee under the protectorate of the Chief of State, Józef Piłsudski, it appeared the same year Poland competed at the Games as an independent nation after more than a century of partition. The poster's subjects include women athletes, which was notable for the period, and its bold color lithography reflects the commercial printing methods of interwar Warsaw.
