Poznań's 1929 General National Exhibition, held from May to September, is the event this color lithograph advertises, and its central image is the eagle, the white eagle that had long stood for Poland. Designed by W. Jastrzębowski and printed in Bydgoszcz, the poster dates from the decade after Poland regained independence in 1918, when the young republic used large public exhibitions to display its recovered statehood. The emphasis on the eagle and on national pride reflects the nationalist mood of the interwar years and shows how Poland wanted to present itself to its own citizens and to visitors.
