A rear view is an unusual angle for a Mickey Mantle picture, and this frame shows him walking across the field during a game with his back to the camera. It is a contact sheet frame by Thomas R. Koeniges, added to the Look magazine library on September 27, 1968, late in the season that turned out to be Mantle's last in the major leagues. Look kept a large photo archive that supplied pictures for its stories, and candid frames like this one were often saved for their unposed quality. Mantle joined the Yankees in 1951 and spent his career with the club, making him one of the most recognized players of his era.
