This full-length portrait shows Mickey Mantle in his Yankees uniform, and the print is a contact sheet frame, a small proof made from a photographer's negative strip. Thomas R. Koeniges made the picture for *Look* magazine, whose photo library received it on September 27, 1968. That was during Mantle's final big-league season, which he spent with the New York Yankees, the club where he had become one of the defining stars of the 1950s. The frame is worth noticing for its plain, direct pose, a format that let editors choose which image to publish.
