Few players were more closely tied to the New York Yankees than Mickey Mantle, and this frame shows him in uniform during a game. The record notes that it entered Look magazine's library on September 27, 1968, placing it in the final weeks of Mantle's career, as he retired after that season. Thomas R. Koeniges made the image, and because it comes from a contact sheet, it is a small proof print made so editors could choose which shots to enlarge. Many frames like this one never ran in print, which makes them a useful record of how the magazine worked.
