This contact sheet frame shows Mickey Mantle and his wife, Merlyn, in the kitchen of their Dallas home, a domestic setting far removed from the ballpark. The photograph was taken by Thomas R. Koeniges and added to the library of *Look* magazine in September 1968, when Mantle was nearing the end of his long career with the New York Yankees. *Look* was a general-interest weekly that often profiled athletes away from the field, so pictures like this one show how the star's private life was presented to a national audience.
