The building named here is the Hôtel de Ville, Paris's city hall on the Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville beside the Seine, a seat of municipal government for centuries. The Paris Commune set fire to the earlier building in 1871, and it was rebuilt over the following decade in a French Renaissance style. The negative is from the Bain News Service, a New York agency whose glass negatives were made for newspaper and magazine use, and the title is the agency's own unverified label. Because the subject grouping places it among taverns and saloons, that label is worth checking against the image itself.
