The Hôtel de Crillon stands on the Place de la Concorde in Paris, a site chosen for its view across the square toward the Tuileries. Architect Jacques-Ange Gabriel began the building in the late 1750s as a home for the royal furniture repository, and its stone facade has outlasted the monarchy that commissioned it. The building became a luxury hotel in the early twentieth century and drew travelers and diplomats. This glass negative is from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news pictures by wire and mail. Its title comes from unverified caption data, so the exact date of the view is uncertain.
