The name on this glass negative, S. Yousry Pasha, belongs to a man addressed with "Pasha," an honorific used for senior officials in Egypt and the wider Ottoman world. The Library of Congress notes that the title comes from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve, so the identification should be treated as provisional. The picture is part of the National Photo Company Collection, whose Washington studio made many portraits of officials and visitors in the 1910s and 1920s. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coating.
