The record names two men, Antonio H. Barcelo and Miguel Mondragon, and dates the glass negative to January 23, 1924. The names come from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the library has not verified them, so the identities and the occasion remain open questions. The Washington, D.C., firm worked from about 1906 to 1936, making portraits and news pictures that were widely used by newspapers and officials. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Viewers should also look for the streaks and blemishes that come from the glass coating's natural deterioration.
