Brooklyn Edison Company's building stands at the corner of Pearl and Willoughby Streets in downtown Brooklyn, where the utility had its local offices. Brooklyn Edison supplied electricity to much of the borough until it merged into Consolidated Edison in 1936, so the building marks the company's role in powering Brooklyn's homes and businesses in the early 1930s. The photograph dates to about 1932 and was made by Irving Underhill, a New York commercial photographer whose studio recorded city buildings and streets in that decade.
