Recorded simply as James Stader and dated July 8, 1922, this glass negative carries a name that the National Photo Company noted on its sleeve, though the record marks it as unverified. The plate comes from the company's Washington, D.C., studio, a large commercial body of work from the early twentieth century that documents the city's people and everyday life. Streaks and blemishes from the decay of the original coatings are visible, a common sign of the medium's age, and the plate reached the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
