The caption printed on this May 1912 Bain News Service print reads "Cravath," not the Phillies outfielder Dode Paskert named in the original title. A 2008 review by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee revised the identification. The picture shows a Philadelphia player in the middle of a throw, a pose typical of sports news photography of the period. Cravath, who spent much of his career with the Phillies, later became one of the National League's leading home run hitters in the late 1910s. The print comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, which holds pictures issued by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers.
