The Bain News Service caption attaches the name USS *Florida* to this glass negative, though the record notes that the title comes from unverified data on the negative or caption card, so the identification should be read with that caveat. If it is correct, the ship was a dreadnought commissioned in 1911 and the lead vessel of the two-ship Florida class. Its service included Atlantic duty and a wartime stint with the British Grand Fleet. The Bain collection, assembled from a news photo agency active in the early twentieth century, documents many such warships for newspaper readers of the period, and the battleship's steel hull and large gun turrets are the main features to notice here.
