Battleship *Missouri* appears here as one of the warships gathered for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration, a 1909 commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the river and the centennial of Robert Fulton's steamboat *Clermont*. The naval parades that fall brought American and foreign vessels up the Hudson, displaying the steel battle fleet of the early twentieth century. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm known for documenting American scenery and events, recorded the scene on an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, and the plate preserves the ship's massive silhouette as crowds gathered along the river.
