Taken from the side just after the hull slid down the ways, this view shows the battleship Georgia at Bath, Maine, in 1904. The ship was built at the Bath Iron Works during a period when the United States Navy was adding larger, more heavily armed battleships to its fleet. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, sold views of American places and events to a wide public, so the picture also shows how launches like this one were presented to the country at the time.
