This front view, drawn from the driver's side, carries a stamp from the Compagnie de l'Esthétique Industrielle, the Paris studio of industrial designer Raymond Loewy, dated March 22, 1961. That spring, Loewy's firm was developing the Avanti for Studebaker, a sporting coupe that went on sale in 1962. Colored with fluid marker, the sheet shows how designers worked out a car's stance and profile on paper before a full-size model or prototype existed. The stamp and date make it a useful record of the design process behind the car.
