Few automobiles of the period were drawn with the care shown here, and this rear view from the passenger side shows the car's tail and flanks in color. The paper bears a stamp from the Compagnie de l'Esthétique Industrielle, the Paris design firm associated with industrial designer Raymond Loewy, and a date in 1961. The Studebaker Avanti, a sporty coupe, reached showrooms as a 1963 model after a rapid design effort. Such drawings were used to settle proportions and styling details before a car was built, so this sheet offers a glimpse of the design process behind the car.
