Drawn in colored fluid marker and stamped with the Paris address of the Compagnie de l'Esthétique Industrielle, this front view from the driver's side is dated February 22, 1961, more than a year before the car reached showrooms. The CEI was Raymond Loewy's design studio in Paris, and the Avanti was a Studebaker project that Loewy's team helped shape for the 1962 model year. The two-door coupe, with its fiberglass body, was a bold departure from the chrome-heavy sedans of its day.
