Drawn from the rear passenger side, this sheet shows the Avanti at the stage when its shape was still being worked out. The paper bears a stamp from the Compagnie de l'Esthétique Industrielle in Paris, the French design office associated with Raymond Loewy, dated March 22, 1961. The Avanti was a Studebaker sports coupe, and its low, tapered body was a sharp break from the chrome-heavy American cars of the late 1950s. Fluid marker color lets the viewer judge proportion, trim and surface treatment, which are the details designers used to sell a concept to management.
