Few subjects in the WPA's poster output were as showy as Chicago's Buckingham Fountain, which this silkscreen bills as the world's largest and most beautiful illuminated fountain. Dedicated in 1927 in Grant Park and funded by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother Clarence, the fountain became known for its colored lighting and dancing water displays. The Federal Music Project, one of the WPA's arts units, sponsored the poster, which links the city's lakefront spectacle to the public music programs the agency supported during the Depression.
