Winter sport is the pitch in this poster, which names the Olympic bobsled run at Lake Placid, New York, as its main attraction. The run on Mount Van Hoevenberg was built for the 1932 Winter Olympics, which the village hosted, and it remained a well-known destination for visitors afterward. Produced under the Federal Art Project during the Depression, the poster uses flat, bold color in silkscreen to encourage winter travel to the Adirondacks. Its simplified shapes and strong color were typical of WPA posters, which were meant to catch the eye from across a street or a station platform.
