The Wrigley Building's clock tower sets this view apart from other Chicago skyline pictures, and its design draws on the Giralda, the bell tower of the cathedral in Seville, Spain. Completed in 1924 for chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., the white terra-cotta complex stands on the north bank of the Chicago River along Michigan Avenue. The photograph was made by Underwood & Underwood, a firm known for stereographs and views of American places, though the caption card does not record its date. Its tracings point to tower clocks as a subject, so the picture rewards a close look at the tower's upper stories and ornament.
