Here is the accepted design for the Texas State Building at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, dated September 1892, shown as a lithograph by J. Riely Gordon & Co., architects of San Antonio. The drawing was published that month in the *Inland Architect and News Record*, a trade journal that followed the fair's building plans. The exposition, held in 1893 to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus's voyage, invited states to put up their own pavilions in Jackson Park, so a design like this one carried civic pride as well as architectural ambition. It is a useful glimpse of how a Texas firm reached a national showcase.
