The Manufactures and Liberal Arts Building was the largest structure at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, covering roughly 32 acres of the fairgrounds in Jackson Park. Designed by architect George B. Post, it housed exhibits spanning industry, machinery, and the arts, and its enormous Beaux-Arts facade with its classical colonnades and arched entrances helped set the tone for the fair's "White City" look. Photographs like this one record the scale that impressed fairgoers, many of whom had never seen a building so vast. The fair's planners, led by Daniel Burnham, aimed for order and monumentality, and this view captures the grandeur they intended.
