From above, this 1893 view places the Manufactures Building in the left foreground, the Administration Building at the center, and the Transportation Building beyond it on the right. The World's Columbian Exposition opened that year in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus's arrival in the Americas, and its white neoclassical buildings earned the site the nickname White City. The Manufactures Building was among the largest enclosed spaces of its era, while the Transportation Building is remembered for its ornate Golden Doorway by Louis Sullivan. The record places the print in an album, where it shows how the grounds were laid out.
