A bronze equestrian statue of Gen. Winfield Scott stands at the center of Scott Circle, the traffic circle at 16th Street and Massachusetts Avenue in Washington. Scott, who led U.S. forces in the Mexican-American War and served as Army commander-in-chief, was honored with the monument in the 1870s. The National Photo Company, which documented the capital's streets and landmarks in the early twentieth century, made this glass negative around 1918 to 1920. The faint streaks and blemishes on the glass are signs of age in the original coating, not flaws in the scene.
