A bronze statue of Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who founded homeopathy in the late 1700s, stands in the center of Scott Circle in this view. Homeopathic physicians in the United States paid for the monument, which was unveiled in 1900 and became one of the city's best-known memorials. The photograph dates from sometime between 1920 and 1950, when the statue was a familiar landmark for Washington residents and visitors. It was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, which is how the Library of Congress came to hold it.
