Lesley Dill's *The Poetic Body: Poem Dress of Circulation* takes the form of a dress, with the shape of a garment built from lithograph, letterpress, and collage on fragile Japanese silk tissue. The work is based on Emily Dickinson's poem No. 1440, so Dickinson's words become part of the clothing itself, tying the poem to the body that wears it. Dill, a New York artist, often uses text this way to treat language as something physical and personal. This impression is an artist's proof, one of the trial prints made before a numbered edition. It was later published in *Eyes of the Nation* (1997) and shown in the Library of Congress exhibition *American Treasures*.
