This 1920s travel poster sells the American Southwest as a "land of history and mystery," reached by train, and its subject tags point to Native American arts and crafts alongside tourism. Chicago printers such as Newman-Monroe turned out many color lithographs like it during the decade, when railroads competed for passengers bound for the desert canyons, mesas, and pueblo country of New Mexico and Arizona. Posters of this kind often treated Indigenous craft and landscape as the main draws, so the image reflects how travelers were invited to see the region as much as how it looked. Its bold color and stylized design are typical of commercial lithography of the period.
