Issued by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania, around 1903, this stereograph offers a pair of views of the canyon from its rim, which a stereoscope fused into a single three-dimensional scene. Keystone was one of the largest makers of such cards, and its catalogs reached parlors and classrooms across the country. The card dates to a time when the Grand Canyon was becoming a destination for visitors, especially after the Santa Fe Railway brought passengers to the South Rim in 1901. Seen through a stereoscope, the cliffs and their layered depths would have looked far more immense than any flat photograph could show.
